Types of Poker Rakeback

If you already know the basics of an Online Poker Rakeback account, you need to learn about the different types of rakeback. Poker rooms use different methods to calculate the rakeback you receive. Some are better than others, depending on your style of play. There is no “one-size-fits-all” rakeback system. (Except no rake… Wouldn’t that be nice?). Each type of rakeback system has its pros and cons for different types of players.

Contributed Rakeback

Contributed rakeback is calculated based only on the money that you contribute to the pot. The money that you put in the pot is multiplied by the percentage of rake. The result of that calculation is then multiplied by the percentage of your rakeback deal. Let’s assume that you are playing at a cash table where the rake is 10%. You are involved in a $100 pot with two other players. You and one other player contributed $40 each to the pot, the other player contributed $20. The total rake is $10. The poker room calculates your portion of the rake at $4. If you have 30% rakeback at this poker room, you will be credited $1.20.

Advantages: If you are a player who likes to go deep into pots, often seeing the river and bluffing or showing down, you will benefit because you are contributing a lot of money to a lot of pots.

Disadvantages: If you are a tight player, you will rarely be throwing money into pots, and therefore will not be credited for contributing rake to many pots.

Shared Poker Rakeback

Shared rakeback is calculated based on whether or not you enter the pot. Entering a pot in a shared rakeback scenario will earn you rakeback based on the size of the pot, and number of players in the pot; not on how much rake you actually contribute to the pot. The total rake of the pot is divided by the number of players who contributed rake in the pot, and it is distributed evenly. Assume that you are playing in a cash game where the rake is 10%. You and three other players are involved in a pot. You and one other player each contribute $10 to the pot, but bail out early.

The other two players each contribute $40 to the pot, for a total pot of $100. The rake on the pot is $10. With shared rakeback, each players rake contribution to the pot is $2.50. If this were a situation that took place with contributed rakeback, your rake would only be calculated as $1.

Advantages: You will benefit if you like to see a lot of flops, but don’t like to proceed any farther without hitting a strong hand.

Disadvantages: If you are a tight player, you will not be involved in many pots and will not be credited with contributing rake.

Dealt Rakeback

Dealt rakeback is calculated based on whether or not you are dealt a hand in which a raked pot occurs. You do not have to be involved in the hand to have rake contribution credited; you only have to have a hand dealt to you. If a raked pot occurs, all players at the table who were dealt a hand will receive equal credit for the rake generated in the pot.

Assume that you are playing in a cash game where the rake is 10%. You are UTG at a full 10 player table and decide to fold. You watch the action as a $100 pot unfolds. The rake on this $100 pot is $10. Since there were 10 players who were dealt hands at the table, the rake contribution is divided between all 10 players, resulting in $1 of rake for each.

Advantages: If you are a tight player, this will benefit you most because you will not be required to get involved in pots to realize the full benefit of this type of rakeback. You will be credited for generating much more rake than you actually generate.

Disadvantages: Loose players will not be credited for contributing more rake.
