EPT Copenhagen Day 2
Day 2 of EPT Copenhagen Main Event saw the combined groups from Day 1a and Day 1b continue play on the felt at Casino Copenhagen.
The 2011 EPT Copenhagen Main Event attracted a huge field of 449 players which created a prize pool of around €2 million, to be shared by the remaining 64 players who make the money.
At about lunch time today, the volatile affair with so many talented and aggressive players still left in the tournament, made sure that the field was reduced from 262 players to 73 players after six levels, due to a constant stream of bust outs during the day's play.
The EPT Copenhagen event is renowned for aggression was a common feature at the tables and no player was looking to just to make the money even though the tournament was heading close to the bubble.
One of the players to benefit a great deal as a result of the constant flow of players getting knocked out was Michael Tureniec. The talented Swedish pro closed the day as the eventual chip leader with 640,000 in chips. Many players had their shot at Tureniec but like a resilient bulldog, the former EPT London runner-up was not going anywhere. Tureniec was able to win a few key coin flips, which is so important to tournament survival in a major tournament like the EPT Copenhagen.
Other players who saw their stacks grow on Day 2 at EPT Copenhagen, with around half-million chips, include Per Linde with 514,000 chips, Joel Nordqvist with 419,000, Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly with 416,000, Daniel Pettersen with 373,000 and Thomas Schaeffer finished with 365,800 in chips.
Peter Eastgate was one of the players who squared up against Tureniec today, but Eastgate was knocked out after moving all-in on a flop of 8h-5c-2h with pocket queens. His opponent, Michael Aron decided to three-bet to 50,000 after getting check-raised on the flop, and Eastgate shoved. Unfortunately for Eastgate, it was the last hand he was to play in his debut tournament since coming out of retirement, as his opponent had middle set. Michael Aron finished the day with 205,400.
The former 2008 WSOP Main Event champion wasn't the only big player who was resigned to the rail. Other notable players who were eliminated on Day 2 include Annette Obrestad, Scott Montgomery, Kevin Stani and PokerStars Team Pros Ville Wahlbeck and Toni Judet.
